we’re excited to announce the results of the 2025 storybottle co. short story contest!

Our Fiction Editor, Carrie Lee South, chose “Outside Voices” by Sarah Harris Wallman as this year’s winning story. Here’s what Carrie had to say about the story: “‘Outside Voices’ is a searing portrait of the quiet but desperate yearning of modern mother/womanhood. Who are the selves we’ve sacrificed? Are those versions of us living other lives somewhere? Sarah Harris Wallman explores what it means to be ‘seen,’ and to want to be seen, even when no one really sees us.”

Wallman a fictioneer who was born in Arkansas, grew up in Nashville, got a degree in Charlottesville, VA and another in Pittsburgh. She’ s lived in Glastonbury, UK and New York City. Bits of all these places wind up in her fiction and though she loved them all, she now lives in New Haven, CT.  It’ s not bad either. She’s only been robbed at gunpoint once.

Congrats, Sarah! Check out her story here
